(Broken off from this post in this thread.) The problem with downloading an illegal copy even if one has paid for the game is that it still contributes a hit to the pirates, which is an important motivating factor for them. And seeing people discuss pirate copies in public not only gives pirates the spurious sense of "providing a service" instead of just breaking the law, plain and simple, but also gives piracy one's personal endorsement. Which is 100% of what any of us can give. P.S. Please feel free to disagree with any of this. I just felt the need to post these thoughts as they occurred to me.

I have to say having new mediums for old products like nintendo games is nice, other wise, pirating does just seem a waste.
