General question:

What do you think about cellphones (with their ever growing capabilities) as a medium for adventure games?

Specifically, text-type adventure games or very low graphic style adventure games? I haven't actually searched for any (I'm sure there are some already) but there could be a nice market for that.

What say you?

The nice part about it would be that adventure games would have to go back to simple graphics and focus on the story. I miss that.

Personally I find it hard to see much beyond the iPad when it comes to trying out new gaming platforms. I want one and it seems such an ideal vehicle for adventure games old and new that cell phones pale by comparison. I would play an adventure game on a cell phone if someone gave me both the phone and the game. Whereas it would have to be a pretty extraordinary game to get me to buy it solely for a cell phone, especially since I would need the new phone too to play anything other than "Snake".

Personally I can't stand playing games on a phone, even fancy new touchscreen phones. The only times I play anything on a phone at all are when I'm bored completely out of my mind and I'm nowhere near a book or something that plays games and isn't also my lifeline to 911 -- and even then it's usually some low-effort trivia game, not a full-blown adventure.

An iPad or other tablet PC would be a much better fit, but I don't really have any interest in one of those either.

I don't know, I think there are situations where having a cellphone is the most convenient medium for games, even over ipads. The last two weeks of my life have included waiting in line for an hour to ride something at Disney World and waiting around for brokers and importers to find their boxes in giant warehouses so I can inspect them.

I couldn't help but think about playing some text-only adventure game on my cellphone the whole time I was at Disney when I was in line. It's such a noise, obnoxious and tight place to be. Couldn't imagine reading in that environment or carrying an Ipad but...an Ipad would be a better medium than a cellphone. That's for sure. Hands down.

Ah, just a thought.

They'll probably be marketed eventually if they aren't already. I would want what Krss said to be true if so. =]

I havenít seen any adventure games for the iPhone yet but there are a few others that play well on the new medium.

Even though I never use my phone for games and would rather play them on a PC, the iPhone and the iPad have really took gaming to a whole new impressive level. It really depends on the game too. A few iPhone games that come to mind are:

Angry Birds Ė This one has become so popular, theyíre thinking about making a movie out of it. Itís literally where you throw angry birds into things and knock them over. Itís actually quite funny and the graphics are really great.

Zen Bound Ė This is a unique, low-key style game that centers on focus and patience. You simply wrap a taut rope around various 3D shapes. Itís great to cool your mood and relax. Itís a 3D graphics game and takes on a unique concept on casual games.

Popcorn! Ė okay, so itís not that great but it is because I designed the graphics for it. And itís free. ^_^
