In honor of Gray Matter's release on Nov 12, publisher dtp, through CORT-X, is giving away 3 copies of Gray Matter for XBOX! And just for fun we've designed a challenge text-based adventure game for entering the raffle.

The game is found at http://cort-xforum.rilngard.net/game.

When you finish the game, you will be able to claim your raffle ticket by entering your email address. You'll receive an encrypted code based on it, and you have to post it on this forum in order to enter the raffle. If you have problems with copy-paste, just take a screenshot.

The challenge will be open for a week, and then we'll draw the raffle winners from the people who finish the game and have the codes to show it. Check back here for questions and updates on how the challenge is going.

The deadline is the end of this week, midnight US Central between Sunday and Monday.

GOOD LUCK!

K's notes:

1) This game works best in Firefox and Chrome, and worst in IE. (I hate IE.) But it does work in IE anyway. It looks the prettiest in Chrome though.
2) I've tested it in most scenarios, but some bugs might still occur. If they do, please report them immediately because we want this contest to be fair and to work for everyone.
3) The game saves your progress in a cookie called "game-progress". If you erase that cookie you will lose all progress. If you don't, every time you go back to the game it'll remember where you were last time.
4) If you're at a loss at any point, type "help" to see a list of commands you can use. You can select stuff from your commands history with the up and down arrows.
5) I think it goes without saying, but anyway: don't post any spoilers here. It's in your best interest too, after all.
6) Credit goes to gabnic for the game's engine.

That's about it. Hope you guys will like our little game.

THE CHALLENGE IS NOW CLOSED.

Hi Dreamweb! It's cool that you're playing it. I admit I was kind of sadistic with some of the puzzles.

This is a mop: http://www.simplygoodstuff.com/microfiber_string-mop.html

Saying what you did in the game can be a spoiler for others, so please don't.

This is a very nice idea indeed! Only thing is - the descriptions of the various rooms and certain items remind me of the theme of Gray Matter, e.g. the cards, feminine room etc... There wouldn't happen to be spoilers for anyone who hasn't played the game yet, right (Yes, despite my pledge to play it on the day it's released, I still haven't *CRY*)?

There are no Gray Matter spoilers, only the playing card theme is the same, because I actually intended to make something GM-related.
None of the puzzles has anything to do with GM's except the theme, and there's no plot to speak of in this minigame. The rooms are all made up; it's likely I have been subconsciously influenced by the game, but they are not GM's rooms. Thinking about it more, I was inspired by one environment layout I saw in the game.

So, If you want to keep yourself absolutely clean of everything, including the theme, then maybe you shouldn't play this right now, wait until you've finished GM.

 That was fast! Yes, you need to post the code to enter. It's unique for each email and it's encrypted. If all goes well in the code we should be able to decrypt your email from it.

So Awsome! Yes, with a capital A!

Here goes:

I pawn you all!!! Lolz you all n00bs....ha ha ha. Kidding.

Can you confirm even now that the code is valid? Or whenever you have the time, of course!

I'm sorry, I'm just so excited!

Can you do something special for the first three to solve the mini-game? I guess not, it wouldn't be a raffle then, just a "first to" contest, huh?

I'm sorry to say it's an invalid code.

JUST KIDDING! :bigfreak: It's valid and we retrieved your email from it. :colorain: Congrats!

You get props for finishing first anyway, but I'll think about something special for the first three. Initially, it was planned as a "first to" thing, but then it seemed biased towards the ones who woke up first.

Great, it's cool you finished and your code checks, it means the whole thing works. I'd be curious about your impressions, if you want to share in a PM.

That emoticon is so neat!

Did I tell you folks how grateful I am for this opportunity? It's not every day that you get a chance to get something so amazing as Gray Matter for free!

Ever since I joined this forum, and even prior to that when I first discovered this site, every moment of anticipation was exciting, even at the hard times. The adventure games community (and I daresay Jane Jensen and dtp) owe you, Krss and Nico a lot for the fantastic work you did on this site, because I have no doubt it brought much attention to the game, something that the people who were supposed to do sadly neglected.

It's been a rough road, but as they say - All's well that ends well.  :smiletear:

So, one thousand (and more) words of thanks, Nico and Krss (and anyone else involved that I am shamefully not aware of, if there is someone like that).

Nico would be able to clarify who provided the GM copies, I don't want to mistalk. All I know is I didn't.

I'm glad you are getting a lot of good feeling out of this site. There were many others involved in the site and community over time, so our names shouldn't be singled out (well, maybe Nico's should). Anyway, no one owes any of us anything! I think you're exaggerating because of recently finishing the challenge.

It's nice to know you are trying it. Go catch that bus!!

If you think you encountered a bug, you should report it. If you're not sure that something is a bug, report it anyway - I can't hint but maybe I can use the info to fix something in the code.
