Thanks Nico!
How great is this blog entry?! Jane tells us loads more about the game, and hints at another blog entry soon too!

The Scarlet Furies download is awesome. I can't wait to hear how it sounds in the game!

Reading the new entry certainly made my day! The vibe is so warm and positive I actually found it infectious in the best possible sense of that word.

Hmmmm that's interesting. I felt something was being withheld from us (at least from some of us), and now it's confirmed - I'm referring of course to Jane's disclosure of the Beta testing that took place since October, around the same time I was complaining that the forums were uncharacteristically silent. I guess some members were preoccupied with something else - like playing the pre-Beta version! Boy I'm jealous. Oh well...

Now we just need to brace ourselves for the official word on the release date - both the Amazon date and Jane's claims about lots of work left to be done seem to indicate that we have til at least September of this year to wait. Oh well, what's another half a year after seven years of wait.

As for the music - I'm definitely intrigued.

Ha, ha.  I knew we couldn't fool some of the more intrepid members of this forum.  Even so, I think the reasons (i.e. excuses) we gave for being silent are still quite valid: it's hard to find things to talk about when there's not much news on the game front.

Obviously I won't disclose details, but what I think would be alright to mention is that it was a very, very rough version of the game.  The state that the game was in took me by surprise, considering how long it had been worked on.  A massive amount of bugs, although it was still playable and everyone reached the end.

I imagine all the remaining resources are being used to hammer out these bugs and making it the best possible product that all of us know it's certainly capable of being.  This extra time should allow it happen.

I suspect a fair proportion of this frantic tinkering process has to do with the consensus of the beta group.  The developers admitted they considered our feedback and suggestions highly invaluable, and took them very seriously (a very flattering thing, for us) and I'd like to think that our group, which participated in the beta test, will play a part in the developers necessitating many of the enhancements and polish to the finished product.

But that's all I'll disclose.  I've been trained not to break.  I laugh at torture.

I appreciate the new blog especially since we've been complaining about the lack of updates - but is it me or does it seem like she was using the 'update' to promote her step-daughter's band? It's a great band and all with a very unique style, but we didn't get any new screenshots, any new character information, how far along they are with the beta, nothing major on the game and the process itself.

I know, I'm being somewhat cynical but at least a small screenshot would be nice. I just didn't get that special feeling while reading the blog, as opposed to the others.

I hope my feelings are wrong but if we don't get another update soon, my feeling may be right. *shrug*

I don't know, what do you guys think? Did you feel the newest post was a little different than the others or am I just thinking into it too much?

Yeah, Jules, I got the same impression after I read through that blog too.  And I share your sentiment.

I still cannot fathom why DTP refuses to adequately market this game or even put a conscience effort to build up excitement for its impending release.  Why do they continue to drip-feed the public with minute snippets of information, when, at the 11th hour, there should be a torrent coming through by now?

It's a poorly implemented marketing team and this "no information" policy must be driving Jane Jensen bonkers, especially in terms of what information they choose for her to divulge at a given moment.

I got genuinely excited by the new entry because Jane herself was sounding really upbeat on the whole state of things. That has got to be a good sign!

Incidentally I was glad to see the CORT-X news update was by Santi. Long time no see!

ITA, her optimism and enthusiasm were definitely in the subtext of the entry.

Still - and please, believe me: I'm not trying to turn this thread in the umpteenth 'let's discuss marketing strategy' rant - I can't possibly believe how poorly marketed this game is being. I mean, even if I try not to think about AAA games, there are less known titles out there that are receiving better publicity than Gray Matter. Over at AdventureGamers.com that are currently not one but two threads discussing how disappointing is the lack of actual news concerning the game, and many people are loosing the patience. Not because they don't have faith in Jane. On the contrary, because they havea great faith in Jane and they're feeling like she'll end up being hindered by a mediocre publisher.

I don't know. A screenshot, a trailer, a character, a new feature of the game. Everything that can whet the appetite. I appreciated (greatly) the song, both because I'm an avide Jane's fan and because I already know something about the game (*grin*), but, if I try to put myself in the shoes of more a casual Jane's supporter or a simple adventure gamer with no particular attachment to Jane or Gabriel Knight, I'd probably have lost interest in the game and put myself in a 'it's out when it's out' mentality.

I understand the concern and wonder about the same things from time to time. (What I will always disagree with is the outright hostility that we have seen in some places.) It would help if we knew why there is such an almost total silence from the publisher. As it is we can only speculate.

Speaking of speculation, I have a hunch that before the spring is over, we may well see the new website and further entries, screenshots, and other PR material finally emerge. Stranger things have happened and some of this has been hinted at in places...

Well, Wizarbox is going to be at GDC next week.  I'm hoping they have something to show, but with the information black hole it's hard to know one way or the other.

Amazon.de is still claiming a March 31 release date for the German version, but since the most recent screenshots were released from Tonuzaba in 2007 (and basically consist of People Walking Up And Down Stairs: The Game) I'm guessing that's going to slip.

I have been wondering about the relationship between the various German and English release dates we have seen. Are the two versions going to be released at different times?

Not sure about financial or other reasons for or against it, but I would have thought a simultaneous release would be preferable for such an awaited title.

(Welcome to the forum, Flamedrake!)

Great! I do hope they are saving some goodies for this time. Maybe even some gameplay, hopefully.

That would be lovely. An updated site with the updated Sam character and some new screenshots. Since the release date has been pushed back a few months, they should have SOME time to press the PrintScrn button and upload a little screenshot or two to the web. What does that take, less than five minutes?

Hi and welcome, Flamedrake! :cortex:

Will anyone from here attend GDC?

Any Jane blog update for me is good news, because it kind of says "We're still alive here, don't give up on us."

Since no one has said anything, I assume nothing related to Gray Matter has been heard of in connection with the concluded GDC...

Aaah. With the gift of hindsight it all becomes clear - the silence on the forums, the delayed release date...  the reason? The intensive beta testing!

(BTW I'm very jealous that some of our number were lucky enough to be involved with the beta testing. good on you guys!)

I must admit that I am disappointed that the release date is now rumoured to be 24 September, however if this is what's required to iron out the bugs and develop some of the story elements then that's fine with me.

What I am more concerned about is the virtually non-existing marketing efforts that have become apparent.

I agree with iamtheman. September is only 5 months away. If they have opted for a large scale launch nearer the release date, as opposed to a softly softly approach, I still would have at least expected some steady teaser news/screen shots to be released to the big name PC gamer magazines and websites.

They know that Jane Jensen has a massive, avid cult following and that there's loads of people waiting for the slightest bit of news...

...Whoever heard of the sole marketing efforts to be left to a single blog authored by a game's writer???

Ok, I've had my rant

I find it more weird than irritating. Hmmm...
